Cheltenham Top Jockey Odds
Last year, Rachael Blackmore broke many a glass ceiling.
Not only did she become the first woman to win the Grand National, but a month previously, she was crowned the Top Jockey at the 2021 Cheltenham Festival. Her standout win was on Honeysuckle in the Champion Hurdle, but that was only one of six wins across the four days last season.
With Honeysuckle returning and A Plus Tard seeking revenge in the Gold Cup, Blackmore is very well set in the defence of her title. However, with Willie Mullins possessing a sensational raiding party, stable jockey Paul Townend may possess the strongest book of rides in the history of the Festival.
With both Jack Kennedy and Davy Russell backed by Gordon Elliott and Gigginsotwn and Mark Walsh by J.P. McManus, there are plenty of riders in with a chance of taking that particular crown. Below are the current odds for the Top Jockey award at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival.
Jockey | Best Odds |
Paul Townend | 4/5 |
Rachael Blackmore | 4/1 |
Davy Russell | 6/1 |
Nico De Boinvile | 8/1 |
Jack Kennedy | 10/1 |
Mark Walsh | 14/1 |
Patrick Mullins | 20/1 |
Harry Cobden | 50/1 |
Harry Skelton | 50/1 |
Jamie Codd | 50/1 |
Cheltenham Top Trainer Odds
The race to be Top Trainer went down to the final race in 2021. Galopin Des Champs’ success in the Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle ensured that Willie Mullins pinched the title from Henry De Bromhead.
Both handlers ended up with six winners, but on countback of runners-up, Mullins clinched the victory. Not that De Bromhead would have minded too much; he became the first trainer in the history of the meeting to win the Champion Hurdle, Champion Chase and Gold Cup in the same Festival.
The race for the 2023 Top Trainer title looks to be in Mullins’ hands again, but below is how the odds see it as the Festival approaches.
Trainer | Best Odds |
Willie Mullins | 4/11 |
Gordon Elliott | 7/2 |
Henry De Bromhead | 8/1 |
Nicky Henderson | 16/1 |
Dan Skelton | 66/1 |
Paul Nicholls | 66/1 |

Understanding How to read the Cheltenham Betting Odds
Cheltenham Festival odds are easy to understand for those having a punt for the first time in 2023.
For example, if a favourite has odds of 2/1 and you place a £1 bet on them to win, you will win £2 back, along with your £1 stake, should it win. As such, the higher the first number, the bigger you can win.
Be warned, however. A horse with odds of 2/1 is considered much more likely to win by bookmakers than one with odds of 20/1. So while the 20/1 shot would land you a bigger win, it represents a much riskier bet and less likely to come off.
Similarly, not all odds will be x/1. For instance, a horse may have odds of 5/2. The number on the right acts as a divisor, so if you place £1 on, you would multiply by 5 and divide by 2, winning you £2.50.
